Marjon Tondravi - Founder and SDTW Host
I have been chasing adventures around the world for over 25 years—visiting 55 countries and collecting stories, friendships, and unforgettable memories along the way. Travel has always been my happy place, and I am especially passionate about making it more accessible and meaningful for women.
I lead small groups of women on soulful, purpose-driven journeys. My trips go beyond sightseeing—they’re about forging deep connections with local communities, embracing cultural immersion, and giving back in meaningful ways. I create experiences that go way beyond just checking off a bucket list. It’s about discovering the world—and yourself—in the process.
Agung - Local Expert
He is truly what makes this trip so special. Always full of energy, keeps us laughing, and brings a warmth that you immediately feel. I met him over 20 years ago, and he is still, without question, the best guide on the island. He’ll be with us throughout our journey, sharing his deep knowledge of Bali’s sacred sites and offering insight into the culture and traditions that shape daily life here.
This journey does not require extensive walking, and many activities are designed to be comfortable and enjoyable for travelers with lower activity tolerance. However, Bali can be challenging for those with significant mobility limitations. Participants should be comfortable walking on uneven surfaces, navigating stairs, and climbing several flights of stairs when necessary. Stairs are a regular part of getting around in Bali, and many locations do not have elevators or accessible alternatives.
If you have mobility concerns, please reach out before booking so we can discuss the itinerary and make sure the trip is a comfortable fit for you.
October is one of the best times to visit. High season crowds are gone and rainy season is still at bay. You can expect consistent sunshine, daytime temperatures in the mid-80s, and comfortable evenings. The landscapes are lush, the ocean is warm, and conditions are ideal for exploring temples, rice fields, and local villages.

When I discovered this hidden gem just outside Ubud, I knew it was perfect for our group. Nestled among secluded rice terraces and lush gardens, it feels like a private sanctuary. The rooms are exquisitely designed with elegant touches, the spa delivers world-class treatments, and every meal is a culinary experience — artfully presented, made with the freshest local ingredients, and bursting with flavor. Impeccable five-star service completes the experience, making it the ultimate base for our Northern Bali journey.
Your group will be arriving throughout the day. Take this time to unpack, unwind, and settle in after your long journey—you’ll want to be refreshed for tonight’s welcome dinner.
Welcome Cocktails & Dinner at Wedja
I wanted our first night in Bali to feel special, so we’re starting the week at Wedja—a beautiful hidden gem tucked away among the rice fields in Mas.
We’ll meet for cocktails, wander the grounds, take way too many pictures (because you’re going to want to!), and enjoy all the little details that make this place so unique. With lush gardens, ponds, waterfalls, bridges, and beautiful spots around every corner, there’s no shortage of places to explore and photograph.
Then we’ll sit down for dinner, relax, laugh, and officially kick off our Bali adventure together. This is the kind of first night I love—beautiful surroundings, good food, a cocktail in hand, and a group of women who are just getting to know each other.
One of the most meaningful parts of our time in Bali will be stepping beyond the tourist areas and spending the day with the local community.
We’ll visit a remote village supported by the Bali Family Foundation, which works with families facing extreme poverty by providing food, essential supplies, education, and opportunities to build a more self-sufficient future. Our group will contribute food and essential supplies to families who need them — giving us the chance to see firsthand where our giving goes.
Then it’s time to have some fun!
Field Day with the Kids
We’ll spend the day playing games, laughing, and having a little friendly competition with the children of the village. For many of them, a day like this doesn’t happen often. It’s simply a chance to be kids.
One of my favorite moments comes at the end, when they get to pick their own prizes. So much of their world involves making choices based on what they need. Watching them look around and choose something simply because they want it is pretty special. And honestly, I love that we get to give them that.
Bingo with the Elders
We’ll also spend time with the elderly members of the community over a friendly game of bingo. For many, opportunities to socialize are limited, so this is a chance to laugh, connect, and have a little fun together.
We’ll provide food and medicine as prizes — things that are practical and genuinely useful. And don’t be surprised if the competition gets serious! Watching their personalities come out over a game of bingo is one of those moments you won’t forget.
A Taste of Bali
We’ll finish our village experience in the kitchen with a hands-on Balinese cooking class. We’ll learn how traditional dishes are prepared, cook together, and then sit down to enjoy the meal we’ve created.
I have a feeling this will be one of those meals we’ll be talking about long after we leave Bali.
She Dares to Wander will make a donation of food and essential care kits to support families in the community and fund the field day for the kids and the bingo games for the elderly. This contribution is an important part of our commitment to giving back in every destination we visit.
Each woman will be asked to bring a suitcase of requested donations from home. We’ll focus on practical items that can make a real difference to the families and children we meet, such as clothing, school supplies, personal-care items, and everyday essentials. These can be gently used or new condition. I have so much fun collecting from friends and family before each trip.
Together, our group’s tour donation and the items we bring from home provide immediate, practical support to families who need it most. Just as importantly, we’ll spend the afternoon getting to know the community, sharing experiences, and creating genuine connections.
This is the heart of She Dares to Wander—our travel doesn’t simply take us somewhere. It allows us to experience a place more deeply while making a meaningful contribution to the people who call it home.
The Tegallalang Rice Terraces are one of Bali’s most iconic landscapes — layers of vibrant green rice fields cascading down the hillside in perfect symmetry. Shaped by the traditional subak irrigation system, these terraces are both a working farm and a living piece of Balinese heritage.
Here's your chance to live out your Instagram dream on the Bali swing overlooking the rice terraces. Dress rentals are available on site. (Optional add on). This is the perfect back drop for those iconic Bali photos. We will arrive before the crowds and have our own photographer to ensure you leave with a beautiful memory.
Take a break from the heat and join me for lunch at D’Alas, one of those hidden gems I love finding in Bali. Tucked into the jungle with beautiful views of the rice terraces, it’s a really fun and relaxed place to spend the afternoon.
We’ll grab a bean bag, order something cold to drink, and enjoy lunch surrounded by greenery. You really feel like you’re sitting right in the middle of the jungle—it’s peaceful, casual, and completely different from your typical restaurant.
This is the kind of place where we can slow down, relax, laugh, and just enjoy being together while taking in the beautiful Bali scenery.
At Gunung Kawi Sebatu Temple, we’ll experience the melukat, a sacred Balinese ritual.
The water purification ceremony is a ritual meant to cleanse the mind, body, and spirit. Participants move through a series of stone fountains or spring-fed pools, allowing the sacred water to flow over them. Each fountain often represents a different aspect of purification, washing away negative energy, stress, or spiritual impurities.
The ceremony is deeply symbolic and rooted in Balinese Hindu beliefs. It’s both a personal act of reflection and a communal ritual, with water considered a gift from the gods that restores balance and harmony. You can choose to participate or simply observe.
Now it’s your time to wander! Dinner is on your own tonight. You have the rest of the night to shop, explore, grab a cocktail, indulge in a little spa time, or simply follow your curiosity and see where Ubud takes you.
Today we’ll escape to Sundays Beach Club, a secluded stretch of white sand tucked beneath the cliffs of Uluwatu. After descending into the private cove, we’ll settle into our reserved loungers and take in the turquoise water and ocean breeze.
The day is ours to enjoy. Swim in the crystal-clear sea, paddle along the shoreline, or simply relax with your feet in the sand. Lunch is fresh and beautifully presented, best enjoyed slowly with sweeping ocean views.
After lunch, we’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the beach at our own pace—take another swim, grab a cocktail, or simply relax and soak up the incredible setting.
As the sun begins to set, the atmosphere shifts. Live music fills the air, cocktails flow, and bonfires are lit along the beach. We’ll gather for s’mores as the sky fades into evening, with the ocean stretching out before us.
And the night doesn’t end there. Stay for the after-dark beach experience, with music, cocktails, dancing, and the chance to enjoy Sundays Beach Club under the stars. It’s the perfect way to end a full day of sunshine, ocean, and barefoot fun in Bali.
Step into the world of Balinese silver craftsmanship with a truly special, hands-on experience at the family compound of a master silversmith. This isn’t a typical tourist workshop—it’s an intimate opportunity to learn directly from an expert artisan who has honed his craft through generations of Balinese tradition.
In this intimate, hands-on experience, you’ll create your own piece of silver jewelry under the guidance of the master himself. Working in the setting of his family home makes this experience feel worlds away from a typical tourist workshop—it’s a genuine glimpse into Balinese culture, craftsmanship, and family tradition.
You’ll leave with more than a beautiful piece of jewelry. You’ll take home something you created yourself and the memory of an experience that few visitors get to have.
The rest of the day is yours to enjoy some free time. You have the option of joining up with the group at dinner or exploring on your own.
For those wanting to dive deeper into Bali’s vibrant art scene, the rest of the afternoon is yours to explore independently and at your own pace. There’s no set schedule, so you can choose the experiences that interest you most—or simply enjoy some free time.
Explore Mas, Bali’s renowned woodcarving village, and wander through local workshops where generations of master craftsmen create intricate sculptures and traditional carvings. Browse local oil painting galleries featuring contemporary and classic Balinese works, or visit Batik studios to watch artisans bring fabric to life using traditional wax-resist techniques and vibrant colors.
If jewelry is more your style, head to Celuk, Bali’s famous silver and jewelry village, where you’ll find beautiful galleries showcasing handcrafted pieces—perfect if you’re looking for something special to take home.
Choose one experience, explore several, or simply wander and see where the afternoon takes you. This is your time to discover Bali’s artistic side your way.
Kecak Dance Under the Stars
Tonight, you have the option of joining me for dinner and one of Bali’s most unforgettable performances or having the night on your own! Watch as dozens of dancers bring an ancient story to life through rhythmic chanting, dramatic movement, and fire. Add a Balinese temple setting and the evening sky overhead, and you have a pretty magical way to spend the night in Ubud.
Set your alarm—this one is worth getting up early for! Before sunrise, we’ll jump into our 4x4 jeeps and head up Mount Batur for an exciting off-road adventure through Bali’s volcanic landscape.
As dawn approaches, we’ll arrive at our sunrise viewpoint, grab a warm cup of hot chocolate, and watch the sky come alive over Lake Batur and the surrounding volcanoes. Once the sun is up, buckle in for more Jeep fun as we explore the rugged black-lava fields and dramatic terrain of Mount Batur.
It’s an early start, but it’s the kind of Bali experience you won’t soon forget!
Besakih Temple, known as Bali’s “Mother Temple,” sits on the slopes of Mount Agung, the island’s highest volcano. The complex is huge, with over 80 temples connected by stone stairways, courtyards, and detailed carvings — it’s easy to get a sense of the history and devotion woven into every corner.
As we walk through the shrines, I love watching locals in traditional dress making offerings and hearing the soft ringing of temple bells. The views of the rice terraces and mountains beyond are incredible, and there’s a quiet energy here that makes it impossible not to pause and take it all in.
After our morning at the magnificent Besakih Temple, we’ll take a little time to slow down and enjoy lunch at Edelweiss. Perched in the lush highlands near Mount Agung, this beautiful spot gives us a chance to relax, enjoy the mountain air, and take in the incredible views of Bali’s countryside.
After a full day of exploring, I’m sure we’ll be ready to crash early! If you still have some energy, I can recommend Juggan Sky Bar for dinner or drinks. It's one of my favorite spots.
For our final evening in Bali, we’ll gather at Inda Bambu, a beautifully designed restaurant set among lush tropical gardens and the peaceful Balinese countryside. The setting is intimate and sophisticated, with open-air spaces, natural textures, warm lighting, and views surrounded by greenery. It has the feeling of a private escape—elegant without being formal and luxurious without feeling overdone.
We’ll begin the evening with sunset cocktails, taking in the changing colors of the sky as the gardens and surrounding landscape take on a warm evening glow. As night falls, the atmosphere becomes even more inviting, with softly lit surroundings and a beautiful, relaxed setting for our final dinner.
Dinner will feature beautifully presented dishes inspired by local Balinese flavors, fresh ingredients, and thoughtful presentation. It’s an elevated dining experience that still feels connected to the culture and character of Bali.
After a week of exploring, connecting, and experiencing Bali together, we’ll have the evening to simply enjoy the setting, the food, and each other’s company.
An elegant setting, a beautiful sunset, and an exceptional final dinner—the perfect way to close our Bali journey.
The day is yours. Relax at the hotel pool, take a yoga class or guided walk through the rice fields, or enjoy the spa one more time.
Head into downtown Ubud to explore the famous Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary and Ubud Palace — all within walking distance of the charming shops and restaurants that line the streets.
Is there somewhere you were dying to see that we didn't cover? I can help hire a driver to take you out for the day.
In the evening, we’ll come back together for our farewell dinner.
Bambu Indah offers an 11:00 - 5:00 day pass. This is a great option to spend your last afternoon before dinner in their main property. Package includes use of their spring fed pools, towels, shower facilities and credit towards their river restaurant for lunch.
You can freshen up in time for our finale night upstairs.
Bali Animal Welfare Association
Animals have long struggled to survive in the streets, beaches, and villages of Bali facing hunger, illness, mistreatment, and uncontrolled breeding.
Amidst a lack of understanding, education, and enforceable laws against improper treatment of animals, BAWA works tirelessly to protect them from harm.
BAWA’s programs are designed to tackle Bali’s animal welfare issues from all angles.
They take action to directly relieve pain and suffering, and work within communities to influence a positive shift in attitudes and behaviors, in order to stop animal mistreatment before it occurs.
Optional Volunteer Shift Walking Dogs
Luckily for us BAWA is only minutes from our hotel. The Rescue relies on volunteers to help walk their rescued dogs. You may even fall in love! Miss Alena was adopted by one of our travelers and now lives in Rhode Island.
If you’re interested, you can sign up directly with BAWA for a shift:
🕘 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
🕐 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Our time in Bali has come to an end. Enjoy one last breakfast with your new friends, taking in the views and savoring the memories.
Enjoy the pool, restaurant and spa while you wait for your flight home. The hotel will hold your luggage and has a shower room to freshen up before you leave.
When you’re ready, your driver will transfer you to Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) for your journey home, carrying the stories and connections from this unforgettable trip.
