Visit to Tambua Utu and Mission Minded Foundations

general icon

Tambua Utu Foundation

This trip provides wheelchairs for children living with cerebral palsy and other disabilities. On this unforgettable day, we’ll be there to present these custom mobility devices to the children, alongside their proud parents. Seeing their smiles, their excitement, and the newfound independence these wheelchairs bring is a moment that will stay with you forever. By joining this journey, you’re not just traveling—you’re changing lives in a deeply meaningful way through She Dares To Wander.

Advocating for the rights of children with disabilities.

Helen Peter has dedicated her life to helping children with disabilities live with dignity and joy. Through her organization, the Tambua Utu Foundation, she provides children with wheelchairs, physical therapy, and family support — ensuring that every child, regardless of ability, can experience inclusion, movement, and love.

Tambua Utu means “Recognize Humanity” — and that is exactly what Helen’s work does. She recognizes the beauty, worth, and potential in every child she meets.

What Tambua Utu Foundation Does

  • Provides mobility devices such as wheelchairs and walkers for children with cerebral palsy and similar disabilities

  • Offers physical therapy and caregiver training to parents so children can continue progress at home

  • Raises awareness in the community about inclusion and accessibility

  • Creates a loving network of families supporting each other through shared challenges

Helen’s compassion radiates through everything she does. Her dream is to one day open a fully equipped therapy center where every child can access professional care, regardless of their family’s ability to pay.

Her message is simple: “Every child deserves the chance to grow, move, and be loved.”

Mission Minded Foundation

This trip sponsors sewing machines and fabric for the sewing classes, which we will deliver in person during our visit.

Glory Albert teaches women how to sew reusable pad kits and empowers them through education about the female body, self-protection, and financial independence.

Glory Albert is helping women reclaim their power, dignity, and independence. Through her nonprofit, the Mission Minded Foundation, she provides women with practical skills — and the knowledge to protect, sustain, and value themselves.

Glory’s classroom hums with purpose as women learn to sew reusable menstrual pad kits, manage small businesses, and understand their worth. Her work isn’t just about fabric and thread — it’s about stitching new futures for women and girls who have been overlooked for too long.

What Mission Minded Foundation Does

  • Teaches women to sew reusable menstrual pad kits, providing both income and community impact

  • Offers education on women’s health, sexual safety, and self-protection

  • Builds financial literacy through basic marketing and bookkeeping training

  • Encourages peer mentorship and leadership within the community

Each pad kit produced serves a double purpose — half are sold to sustain the project, and half are distributed for free to schoolgirls in need.

Women Farming for Their Future

This is not tourism—it’s connection with purpose. Every dollar from our visit goes directly to the women you meet, supporting their families and creating long-term sustainability for their community.

This is more than a visit—it’s a chance to witness a community of women building financial independence, food security, and hope through their own hands and hard work.

We’ll spend the day in a remote village, welcomed into the heart of a women’s cooperative that is transforming their community from within. You’ll walk alongside these women as they share their daily lives—learning how they farm the land and even trying your hand at harvesting (trust us, it’s a lot harder than it looks!)—before joining them in a traditional cooking session and visiting their homes to witness the strength and resilience that define their everyday lives.

Over lunch, we’ll have the opportunity to genuinely connect—sharing stories, exchanging perspectives, and gaining a deep understanding of what this initiative means to the women who are leading it. This experience is deeply personal and truly groundbreaking. We are among the very first groups in the world to participate in and support this remarkable project—and our presence helps build a lasting legacy for future generations.

Delivering Dignity with Purpose and Treasure Hunting

general icon

Gracious Hope Foundation

This tour directly sponsors a Day of Dignity in partnership with the Gracious Hope Foundation. We will visit a local school to personally distribute reusable menstrual pad and underwear kits to 100 students—providing them with essential tools that restore confidence, protect their education, and ensure they no longer miss school due to lack of basic hygiene access.

For many of these girls, this moment is life-changing. It gives them the freedom to stay in school, pursue their dreams, and break the cycle of shame and stigma surrounding menstrual health. By showing up, we aren't just handing out kits—we are giving them the gift of dignity, opportunity, and hope for a brighter future.

The men will have the option of visiting the daycare center or staying behind for an alternative hike.

Grace Ngonyani is changing lives through compassion and empowerment. Her organization, the Gracious Hope Foundation, uplifts women and mothers by meeting two of their most pressing needs — affordable childcare and menstrual hygiene education.

Grace’s work ensures that women are not forced to choose between caring for their children and earning a living. She believes every woman deserves the chance to thrive — and every girl deserves to go to school with confidence and dignity.

Free Daycare Center

Many women in the community cannot afford childcare, leaving them unable to work or study. Grace created a safe daycare center where children receive care, food, and early learning while their mothers work toward a better future.

Reusable Pad Project

Girls in rural areas often miss school during their periods or drop out entirely due to lack of resources. Grace is tackling this issue head-on by producing and distributing reusable menstrual pads and educating girls about menstrual health and self-respect.

Masaai Market - It's Time to Shop Until We Drop!

Step into the vibrant Maasai Market in Arusha, a place where culture, creativity, and community come alive. This bustling market is filled with handmade treasures—from intricate beaded jewelry and bold, colorful textiles to hand-carved wooden sculptures and vivid paintings that capture Tanzania’s landscapes, wildlife, and daily life.

Every purchase here does more than bring home a unique keepsake—it directly supports local artisans and their families, helping preserve traditional crafts and sustain their communities. Visiting the market is not just a shopping experience; it’s a chance to meet the creators, hear their stories, and witness the skill, dedication, and artistry behind each piece.

The Maasai Market is a celebration of art, culture, and craftsmanship—a vibrant experience that will stay with you long after you leave.

Ability Over Disability

general icon

Safe Home For Children with Disabilities Inclusive

This trip directly supports the SCDI Center through a financial contribution, along with carefully chosen donations that we will personally share with the children during our visit. It’s a hands-on opportunity to make a meaningful difference—bringing joy, resources, and hope to these young lives, while witnessing firsthand the impact of your support.

Yuster Njao has built a safe haven for children with disabilities — a place where compassion, care, and community transform lives every single day.

Her Safe Home for Children with Disabilities provides children with conditions such as cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism, blindness, and deafness with the attention and care they deserve. But Yuster’s work extends far beyond the walls of her center — she also visits families in remote villages who cannot bring their children to her.

What she has created is more than a center — it’s a family built on love and inclusion.

The SCDI Center runs a vital day program for local mothers caring for children with disabilities, giving these mothers the freedom to work while their children receive two nutritious meals and essential therapy. Unfortunately, many fathers abandon their families in these situations, leaving mothers to face enormous challenges on their own.

The children at the center have a wide range of needs—cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, autism, blindness, or deafness—but the dedication of the staff ensures that each child receives care, attention, and love. Despite limited resources, the work being done here is truly extraordinary.

During our visit, we’ll spend the afternoon with the children—helping the staff, sharing smiles, and bringing a little extra joy and support to their day. It’s a heartwarming experience that shows the power of community, compassion, and the difference we can make when we come together.

Shanga Social Enterprise - "Be Kind and Recycle"

Bring home something special—and help create opportunity for those with disabilities.

From its humble beginnings, Shanga has grown into a self-sustaining social enterprise training and employing 34 people with disabilities to produce creative products including weaving, glass blowing, beading, paper making and metal work, using recycled materials wherever possible.

Shanga’s aim is not only to provide employment opportunities to those that need them most but also to remove the stigma that people with disabilities often face in East Africa. By providing a safe and supportive environment, and employment opportunities, Shanga is providing an opportunity for those that have previously been marginalized by society a chance to contribute to their families and community.

When visiting Shanga the focus of ability over disabilityis in evidence everywhere. Of no lesser importance is making amazing products from discarded materials so that we can contribute positively to the sensitive Tanzanian environment while producing creative pieces that celebrate Tanzanian culture.
